Salen año a año artistas que regeneran el estilo y con frescura y solvencia se suman al nuevo revivalismo imperante en USA, gentes como The Chapmans y The Grascals (los dos con magníficos discos en este año 2005), Cold Wind o los Blue Highway, cuyo último disco titulado "Marbletown" de este mismo año es realmente una obra magnífica

Review [eng] Blue Highway hit the ground running about ten years ago, and "Marbletown" is reason for Bluegrass fans to rejoice. Guitarist Tim Stafford is a terrific singer and songwriter, as well as ridiculously gifted flatpicker and rhythm guitarist. Mr. Stafford filled that role with Alison Krauss before departing that band to help form Blue Highway, and he helped Alison choose successor Dan Tyminski in Union Station. Shawn Lane plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar that is hot and tasty. He also writes great tunes and lends his angelic tenor voice to Blue Highway's electrifying performances. Rob Ickes is IBMA Dobro Player of the year for about a zillion years in a row. His lead playing is exciting and fresh, and his backup lines are tasty and "just right". Jason Burleson is the banjo-master in Blue Highway, and his playing could be mistaken for the best of Scruggs, Crowe, etc. Mr. Burleson is also a wickedly good mandolinist, guitarist, etc. Wayne Taylor anchors the band with rock-solid bass playing and the most consistently pleasing lead voice in the band. Wayne sings like he's BEEN there, not like he just heard about it, and his pitch and delivery is as smooth as a belt of mountain moonshine.
Marbletown continues Blue Highway's previous efforts in recording predominantly original songs - 10 of the 12 tunes here were written by band members. The opening "Marbletown" also continues the Blue Highway theme of chronicling the often hazardous lifestyle around coal mining communities - Marbletown refers to a tombstone studded graveyard. The song shifts through several themes with haunting lyrics and instrumentation with a recurrent coda: "We've got a man down here, we've got a man down..." "Lazarus" is a crackling good gospel quartet number that includes fluorishes like harmonized humming during an instrumental break. "Nothing But a Whippoorwill" is another stunner - maybe the strongest tune of the collection - and adding another great entry to the cannon of songs about quarrelling and murdering lovers. "Tears Fell On Missouri" is a song of sad misery that would perhaps be maudlin if not for the plaintive vocals of Shawn Lane's tenor and Highway's trademark harmony and chord progressions.
A short digression: Although all of Blue Highway's members are born and bred Bluegrassers - overflowing with the canon of Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and Stanley - they bring this music to another level. The harmonies are layered and beautiful. The instrumental work is thrilling and interesting. The arrangements don't just plod along.
There are only a handful of Bluegrass Bands that deserve to be mentioned in the same phrase as "Blue Highway". Gentlemen - you have done well. Again.

Con 8 discos a sus espaldas (el último recién editado en Junio de este 2006 es un recopilatorio), esta banda ha llegado a tener un nivel de fama y éxito espectacular, con unos intrumentistas y compositores de lujo
"Tim Stafford" - Guitarra, fué miembro de los Union Station con los que ganó un premio Grammy, además en el 2004 lanzó su hasta ahora único disco en solitario titulado "Endless Line".
"Rob Ickes" - Dobro, Tiene en solitario 4 discos, además ha recibido 7 veces el premio "Dobro Performer of the Year" a cargo de la IBMA - International Bluegrass Music Association, siendo la lista de estrellas del estilo con las que ha colaborado enorme, valgan como ejemplo Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless o Ricky Skaggs.
"Shawn Lane" - Cantante y principal compositor, también toca la mandolina, fiddle y guitarra, sus compsiciones has sido registradas por innumerables artístas del estilo como Ricky Skaggs o Mountain Heart.
"Wayne Taylor" - Bajista y compositor, recibe en el año 2001 el premio "Bass Performer of the Year" por la SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music).
"Jason Burleson" - A cargo del Banjo, es multiinstrumentista.
El primer disco de la banda se remonta al "It's a Long, Long Road" del año 1995, grabado en el sello "Blind Pig" (importante independiente con artístas mas orientados al Blues y Rhythm & Blues), es su exitosa carta de presentación que recibe el premio "Song of TheYear" a cargo de la IBMA por el corte que da título al disco, además la banda recibe el premio "Emerging Artist of the Year" de 1996.
Un año después la prestigiosa compañía "Rebel Recoods" les contrata y graba con ellos el disco "Wind to The West" de 1996. Aumentando su fama enormemente al recibir el premio "Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year" de la IBMA por el corte "God Moves In A Windstorm" que forma parte del disco.
En 1998 lanzan "Midnight Storm", disco magnífco con el que siguen coleccionando premios, aunque en este caso es el premio al mejor Diseño Gráfico de ese año por la IBMA.
En el año 1999 cambian de compañía discográfica para lanzar con "Ceili Music" el disco "Blue Highway", con este disco dan un paso hacia el Bluegrass mas contemporaneo y actual.
Aunque lo mejor estaba por llegar, al entrar la banda en la mejor escudería del estilo. El sello "Rounder" les acoge entre los suyos lanzando tres discos que les llevan a convertirse en banda referencial del Bluegrass.
"Still Climbing Mountains" en el 2001 (producido por Jerry Douglas). "Wondrous Love" en el 2003, monográfico de Gospel. (la canción que da título al disco recibe el premio "Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year"). Y su última joya "Marbletown" en el 2005, hasta ahora su último disco de estudio.
Aprovechando su fama y estrellato, el sello "Rebel Records" saca en este año 2006 el disco "Lonesome Pine", recopilatorio que contiene cortes de los años 1995 - 1998, años de la militancia de la banda en el susodicho sello discográfico.
Ya ha pasado una década desde su primer disco, una década en la que meteóricamente han llegado a la cima del estrellato Bluegrass, se han convertido en referencia para los noveles principiantes del estilo, aún siendo relativamente jóvenes ellos, ya poseen un pozo de sapiencia y calidad que el mercado discográfico, medios de comunicación especializados y sobre todo el público han respaldado.
Son una prueba mas del resurgir y relanzamiento del Bluegrass, un estilo purificador y con raices que a diferencia de la Country Music de la Music City no da muchas concesiones a la modernidad, una modernidad entendida como influencias pop o crooner. Blue Highway son una apuesta a seguro al disfrute de una música que jamás pasará de moda.
The Temptations (Detroit, 1961), grupo de música soul, rhythm and blues y pop, aunque se han acercado igualmente a distintas fusiones de estilos musicales y al funk con cierta carga política. Fue el más importante grupo vocal masculino de los años sesenta. Estuvo inicialmente formado por cinco cantantes a partir de la fusión de dos grupos de Detroit, The Primes y The Distants. Otis Williams, Elbridge (conocido como El, o Al) Bryant y Melvin Franklin eran ya unos veteranos de la escena musical de Detroit cuando formaron the Distants, que en 1959 grabarían el sencillo "Come On" para el sello local Northern. Por las mismas fechas, the Primes, trío formado por Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams y Kell Osborne, se trasladaron a Detroit desde su originaria Alabama. Rápidamente, obtuvieron éxito (el mánager crearía una versión en femenino, The Primettes, del que más tarde surgirían The Supremes, con Diana Ross, Mary Wilson y Florence Ballard). En 1961, the Primes se disolvió pero no sin que antes Otis Williams les pudiese ver en directo, quedando impresionado tanto por las cualidades vocales de Kendricks como por las habilidades coreográficas de Paul Williams. En poco tiempo, Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Bryant, Franklin y Kendricks se habían unido formando the Elgins; tras cambiar el nombre a the Temptations, firmaron con la compañía Miracle, subsidiaria de Motown, con la que realizaron unos cuantos sencillos en los meses siguientes. Solo uno, en 1962, "Dream Come True", logró algún éxito comercial, tras lo que Bryant abandonó el grupo por razones no claras. En 1964 volvieron a grabar con David Ruffin en el lugar de Bryant, contando con la colaboración del compositor y productor Smokey Robinson. El éxito fue inmediato con "The Way You Do the Things You Do", que sería el primero de los 37 Top Ten hits de su carrera. En 1965 presentaron la que sería su canción más conocida, "My Girl", un número uno del pop y un éxito del R&B; otros éxitos de ese años fueron "It's Growing", "Since I Lost My Baby", "Don't Look Back" y "My Baby".
